FIVE new cadets have been appointed as Lord-Lieutenant cadets in Dorset for the coming year.
The annual honour highlights cadets who have demonstrated remarkable contributions and leadership within their respective cadet forces.
The Lord-Lieutenant cadets will assist the Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Michael Dooley LVO MMs FRCOG, at official engagements throughout the year, proudly serving as ambassadors for the cadet forces.
The cadets were appointed at an award ceremony at Thomas Hardy School on October 14.
The newly appointed Lord-Lieutenant cadets:
- Leading Cadet Katie Sadler from Portland Sea Cadets Sea Cadet Corp
- Leading Cadet Freya Kay from Poole Sea Cadets
- Cadet Flight Sergeant William Christian from Thomas Hardye School Combined Cadet Force
- Cadet Sergeant James Buik from Dorset Army Cadet Force
- Cadet Flight Sergeant Charlie Burroughs from 171 (Christchurch) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets
The ceremony also honoured the essential role of reserves and cadet force adult volunteers, with several individuals receiving Certificates of Meritorious Service for outstanding service and cadet forces adult volunteers being recognised for their long-standing commitment to their respective cadet forces, with cadet forces medals and clasps.

Recipients of certificates of Meritorious Service were as follows;
- Civilian instructor Gareth Page from 2391 (Parkstone) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets
- Acting Sergeant Paul Forster from 254 (Specialist Group Information Services) Signal Squadron
- Mr James Humphries of The Royal Wessex Yeomanry
- Lance Corporal Kathryn Perkins from The Royal Wessex Yeomanry
- Lieutenant Carl Franks from Dorset Army Cadet Force
A spokesperson for Wessex Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association said: “A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award to the RNLI.
“This accolade acknowledges the organisation’s exemplary support for veterans and service members, reinforcing the critical partnership between community organisations and the armed forces.
“The awards ceremony was a testament to the positive impact of the cadet movement and its volunteers in Dorset, highlighting the importance of fostering leadership skills and community spirit among young people.
“As future leaders, these cadets are set to make significant contributions to the county and beyond.”
