CINEWORLD in Poole could be axed as the company embarks on a major restructure.

According to Sky News, the major cinema chain, which has around 100 multiplexes, is considering closing at least at least 25 of its 100 cinemas across the UK and it is also looking to renegotiate rent agreements at a further 50 sites with the remaining 25 to remain untouched.

Sources speaking to Sky News said the proposals were expected to be formally outlined to creditors including landlords in the coming weeks.

A list of the potentially affected cinemas has not been released, but the Poole cinema could be at risk.

A Cineworld spokesperson said: “We continue to review our options but we don’t comment on rumours and speculation.”

This follows the news that Cineworld held initial talks about a sale with prospective buyers last month and that it had then switched to a formal restructuring process.
