Big plans for a big lunch? Keep it simple

Thinking about hosting a Big Lunch to celebrate the Coronation but don’t know where to start?
The secret is to keep it simple. Make the first move by bagging a free Big Lunch Pack, invite some people, mention food and the details and ideas should naturally take shape.
Here are a few tips for a hassle-free knees up:

1 Pick a date. The Coronation weekend is ideal, but you can choose any time in June. Lunchtime no good?
No problem – have a fairy-lit Lunar Lunch instead.
Get the feelers out, save a date that suits everyone, and get your Big lunch pack here: edenprojectcommunities.com/big-lunch/get-your-big-lunch-pack.

2 Use the pack’s invitations to invite pals and neighbours.

3 As a group, decide on music, decorations and games (there’s a ‘conversation menu’ in your pack that could be good for getting to know people).
Make bespoke bunting to match the vibe – there are instructions and a free template here: edenprojectcommunities.com/ideas/how-to-make-bunting.
4 Food is good. Get everyone to bring something sweet or savoury to the table.

5 If the weather’s iffy? Plan in advance – lots of people have gazebos, big umbrellas, or pop-up marquees in their shed.
If anyone has a clear garage (good luck with that) open it up, or if there’s a clubhouse, community or church hall nearby, have it on standby.

6 Fundraise. The Big Lunch is a year-round initiative and lots of people use it to raise funds for good causes.
Perhaps do something for a local charity, since the whole thing’s about community spirit?
l Wimborne Minster church is also celebrating:.

On Friday evening at 7.30pm there will be a Civic Service which will be attended by dignitaries including the High Sheriff of Dorset Colin.

The Coronation will be shown on large screens inside the Minster followed by the Town Crier Chris Brown giving the Coronation Cry on the Minster Green, followed by a full peal on the Minster Bells starting at 2.30pm.

During Services on the Sunday there will be special prayers for The King and Queen. Over lunchtime The Minster will join with the Town by holding the Big Lunch on The Minster Green.

Monday sees the ‘Volunteer Day’ being run by the Town Council and there will be Charity Stalls on the Minster Green.

The Minster interior will be suitably decorated.

All are welcome to join the services and events.
