WEATHER warnings for this weekend have prompted organisers to postpone Wimborne Christmas Market.
Wimborne BID has taken the decision to call off the event, which was planned for Saturday in the town centre, which this year has been extended to include the whole High Street and Crown Mead.
It will now take place on Sunday, November 26, the day after the Christmas lights switch on, running from 11am until 3pm.
Wimborne BID manager, Tammy Sleet, said: “We’ve carried out a thorough risk assessment in view of the weekend’s weather forecast and sadly, we cannot risk this open-air event this weekend, especially in its extended format.”
She added: “However, there will still be lots going on this weekend with the Allendale Christmas Craft Market, jumble sale at Wimborne Community Centre, exhibits by Handmade Wimborne’s talented crafters at Walford Mill plus in the evening, Lewis Manning’s Candles on the Green’ event in the Minster 6pm – a chance to reflect, celebrate and remember loved ones.”
Free parking in Wimborne will now coincide only with the Lights Switch-On on Saturday, November 25.
The lights switch-on ceremony is at 4.15pm, with Wimborne set to be illuminated at 4.30pm. There will also be live entertainment in Wimborne Square starting at 1pm.
The festive season will be welcomed in by the Wimborne Militia shooting muskets on the Minster Green.
