Watch: Moment speeding driver caught on CCTV before crash near Ferndown that left man in hospital

A 21-YEAR-old man from Wimborne Minster has been jailed following a high-speed crash that left another driver with serious injuries.

Callum Giddins, who was driving a black Audi A1, failed to stop for police just before 9.20pm on August 5 near the Canford Bottom roundabout before he was seen speeding off towards Stapehill.

The speeding Audi was caught on CCTV.

The car then crashed into a blue Vauxhall Zafira near The Pure Drop pub on Wimborne Road.

The crash saw both Giddins and the 58-year-old driver of the Vauxhall taken to hospital with serious injuries – and an 18-year-old front seat passenger in Giddins’ car also sustained minor injuries.

Police then discovered Giddins had a revoked driving licence and no insurance at the time of the collision.

He was also found to be in possession of cannabis and provided a positive result for benzoylecgonine – a breakdown product of cocaine.

Giddins was arrested and subsequently charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle on a road or in a public place without third-party insurance, failing to stop when directed by a police constable, driving a motor vehicle on a road after refusal of grant or revocation of driving licence, driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of specified controlled drug above the specified limit, and possession of a class B drug.

He was sentenced to two years and ten months in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court last Friday (July 11) after pleading guilty to all the charges against him.

He has also been banned from driving for five years and five months.

PC Tracey Street, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “Giddins’ dangerous driving showed utter contempt for both the law and the victims who sustained serious injuries due his reckless actions.

“We were able to quickly identify Giddins as the driver responsible for this collision and compile evidence to put before the court to ensure he was held accountable for his dangerous actions.”
