Town kids get the eco bug

by Lorraine Gibson.
A crowd of Wimborne youngsters turned eco-warriors while taking part in KidsVenture, St John’s Church annual holiday club.
Every year the club has a theme and this time it focused on the Christian idea of real transformation – including the need for change for the better in the way that we care for the planet.
So, as well as enjoying the usual games, craft and bible sessions, the children also helped transform a small patch of ground next to the church into an ‘Eco Space’, by preparing it to be wildlife-friendly.
Kev Metcalfe from the church said: “The children got really stuck in, building a bug hotel with natural materials, planting wildflowers to attract pollinators and creating a path to help protect the space.”
He added: “Insect numbers are in serious decline and we’re all hoping that this bit of transformed land will help them to thrive. “Children also made their own crafts to take home.”
