The sweet-scented stench of springtime success

Scented sweet peas climbing the apple tree that was the vision or ‘smellyvision’! However, not all of the sweet peas I sowed germinated. My experiment with the self-made clay pot was a total failure as the clay just absorbed the water. Still, I have enough successes to transplant (oh so carefully) as they don’t like root disturbance.
After the shock of being transplanted I try to water in a secondary way by putting a dry pot (this time of Purple Honesty) below the sweet peas and allowing the water to trickle down out of the pot and gently glide into the stunned sweet peas. Later in the year when the Purple Honesty seeds I will use them with White Honesty for dried flower displays.
This year I learned that apple leaves are good for acid reflux. Check with your Doc first and please don’t decimate orchards if you find this does work for you! Instead, grow you own in your garden or patio then you can ensure they are not sprayed with unpleasant chemicals.
You may be able to spot more than few nettles in this Sspring scene. I always keep a patch for early spring pestos or tea (just make sure you blanch or preferably boil the stingers well). They are also useful to make a good feed for tomatoes and apple trees… just stew in water for a few days but not too long as it can get pretty stinky!
