PICTURES: New Milton’s Ballard Lake reopens after improvement works

VISITORS to Ballard Lake in New Milton can now enjoy a new accessible space thanks to improvement works.

The beauty spot has seen new accessible seating installed alongside improved footpaths and a new picnic bench which visitors can enjoy views of the lake from. 

The work comes as New Forest District Council aimed to enhance existing recreational spaces across the area, reduce pressure on nearby protected sites, and support local wildlife as part of its Green Way recreational mitigation programme.

It officially reopened to the public on Tuesday (September 9) as councillors and staff, New Milton Town Council staff, and New Milton residents gathered to witness the ribbon-cutting event.

At the event, councillor Blunden portfolio holder for environment and sustainability said: “This project is a culmination of a lot of hard work by New Forest District Council and New Milton Town Council to improve the site for general recreation and enhance the natural environment.

“Ballard Lake is an important greenspace, and the improvements are a great boost to New Milton that can be enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike.”
