New service launched at Bournemouth’s Health Sciences University to help people with back and joint pain

A NEW Rapid Access Service designed to help people with back pain, joint pain, tendon pain, sports injuries or muscle strains, has been launched at Bournemouth’s Health Sciences University.

This service offers faster access to MRI, X-ray, ultrasound and guided injections.

With short waiting times and no referral needed, Health Sciences University’s clinical experts can help you on the road to recovery – faster.

This new rapid access imaging service helps you get a diagnostic scan, without needing a GP or healthcare professional referral.

A spokesperson said: “After your initial assessment, the team refers you to their onsite imaging department for MRI, ultrasound, or X-ray scans to help diagnose your condition promptly.

“Following your scan, you’ll have a comprehensive review session with a clinician to discuss your results and the next steps for your care.”

Health Sciences University also offers precise, effective relief for joint and tendon pain through consultant-led ultrasound-guided injections.

You can access treatment quickly via the Rapid Access Service (no referral needed) or via GP referral.

Studies show that ultrasound-guided injections have an accuracy rate of between 95-100%, whilst blind injections have an accuracy rate of between 30-70%.

Gila came to HSU with a painful shoulder injury from playing tennis.

She said: “The consultant carried out the injections with the ultrasound machine to guide him, so he was able to see exactly where he was putting the injection.

“I haven’t had any pain since the injection.”
