BUSINESSES and community groups across Wimborne are being invited to get involved as one of the town’s best-loved festivals prepares to celebrate a major milestone.
Discover Wimborne will mark its tenth anniversary this April, with organisers from Wimborne BID urging local enterprises and organisations to take part in what has become a month-long celebration of the town’s creativity, culture and community spirit.
The festival has established itself as a powerful platform for businesses of all sizes, helping them raise their profile, attract new customers and connect with residents and visitors alike.
Last year’s programme featured nearly 200 events, with activities taking place every day throughout April.
Events have ranged from in-store demonstrations, workshops and tastings to talks, exhibitions and behind-the-scenes experiences, offering businesses the chance to showcase what makes them unique.
Many events are low cost or free, designed to encourage footfall and meaningful engagement.
Chair of Wimborne BID Fiona Pawsey said: “Discover Wimborne has grown into one of our most successful and inclusive BID initiatives.
“Doorstep visitors are just as important as tourists, and this festival helps businesses connect with both. It’s about visibility, creativity and reminding people just how much Wimborne has to offer.”
BID manager Tammy Sleet said the festival’s longevity reflects the benefits businesses continue to see from taking part.
“The reason Discover Wimborne has stood the test of time is because businesses see the value of taking part.
“Whether you’re a retailer, hospitality venue, service provider or community group, there’s a way to get involved that suits you – and the BID team is here to help at every stage.”
Businesses involved in previous festivals consistently report new customer connections, stronger brand awareness and increased repeat visits.
Among them is Present Company and Card Gallery, whose owner Daniel Lee said: “Being part of Discover Wimborne allows us to shout about what we do in a way we couldn’t achieve on our own.
“Running small events during the festival helps us engage with new audiences while strengthening relationships with existing customers.”
Community organisations have also embraced the opportunity.
Sarah Wise, director of Fair Ground, said: “The volunteers at the Fair Ground shop really enjoy taking part in Discover Wimborne – it enables us to host events and activities for the community.”
The 2026 festival is expected to gain added momentum by aligning with Town of Culture 2026, while also introducing new elements.
These include Wimborne’s first ever Sports Festival, alongside popular favourites such as guided tours, trails, workshops and anniversary celebrations across the town.
All participating events will be promoted through a free printed festival guide, online listings at www.wimborne.info
Businesses and community organisations planning any type of event in April are encouraged to join the programme.
Free advice, practical support and creative guidance are available from the Wimborne BID team to help participants shape activities that work for their organisation.
Anyone wishing to be included in Discover Wimborne 2026, or to discuss ideas and support, is asked to contact Tammy Sleet at office@wimborne.info by February 27.
