Maureen has wish come true as she returns to the ice

A CARE home resident rolled back the years when staff organised a special ice skating trip.

Maureen, a resident of Upton Bay Care Home in Hamworthy, had wishes to reignite her passion for ice skating.

When activities staff member Chloe heard the Cool Coast ice rink at the BIC in Bournemouth allowed wheelchairs on ice, they quickly organised a trip.

Maureen’s mobility is very poor, so she was joined on the ice by her carer Lizzy and Chloe, who made sure she had fun but felt safe and secure.

Maureen, who has lived at the home for a year, said she was “on the verge of tears” on the day.

“It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream – and I didn’t even ask,” she said.

A spokesperson for the care home said: “Staff were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Maureen’s face when her dream was realised.”

Mevin Sohorye, general manager at the home, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing.

“We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Upton Bay.

“It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.

“It was wonderful to see how happy Maureen was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
