Man in his 80s dies in West Moors crash

A PEDESTRIAN in his 80s has died following a car crash in West Moors.

A black Nissan X-Trail hit a pedestrian at around 7.42 am this morning (December 13), in Station Road close to the junction with Glenwood Road.

A man in his 80s died at the scene and his family has been informed, police have said.

Road closures were put in place as emergency services responded and to allow for a detailed examination of the scene to take place.

Sergeant Mike Gatfield, of the traffic unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who very sadly died as a result of this collision.

“We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.

“I would also ask any motorists with dashcam who were travelling in the area to please review their footage for anything of relevance.

“Finally, I appreciate this collision has resulted in road closures and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding.

“Road closures are necessary to allow first responders to deal with the incident and for a detailed examination of the scene to be conducted.”
