Jack Marsden, of New Milton, sentenced after beating woman

NEW Milton man Jack David Marsden has been in court after admitting assaulting a woman.

The 28-year-old, of Marryat Road, appeared at Southampton Crown Court on Thursday, September 19, having previously pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm during an incident in June.

Marsden, who had been remanded in custody since his arrest, was sentenced to an 18-month community order and a maximum of five rehabilitation activity requirement days. He must also complete a 30-day accredited programme.

The sentencing follows an incident on June 27, during which Marsden assaulted the victim at her home address, leaving her with cuts, bruises and swelling to the head, face and ribs.

“Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary make it clear that nobody – whether that be a woman, a man or a child – should ever be subjected to domestic abuse within an environment that they perceive to be a safe space,” a spokesperson said after the hearing.

“We understand that it is not always easy to report incidents of this nature to us, especially when you have to re-live any trauma faced at the hands of an abuser, but we encourage victims to come forward and report incidents to us.

“We are absolutely clear that we do not tolerate any form of domestic abuse or violence at all. Individuals who are intending to behave in this way and commit these offences will be found and will be stopped.”

They urged anyone who is being abused, or knows someone who is, to call 101 and report it to police, or make a report online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website. If it is an emergency, dial 999.
