“Intoxicated and angry” man trashes New Milton Town Hall doors

THE doors of New Milton Town Hall were smashed by an “intoxicated and angry” man who grew frustrated with his housing situation.

Plant pots were destroyed and hurled at the doors of the building on Ashley Road last Saturday (September 13).

New Forest Police said a man in his 40s admitted the offence to officers who visited his home when they were there to speak to him about an unrelated matter.

“At the time of the damage the man was both intoxicated and angry with New Forest District Council regarding his current housing,” a police spokesperson said.

“In anger he took his frustration out on the doors at the town hall by destroying the plant pots and hurling the empty bases at the glass.”

But it seems the man’s anger was misplaced as the housing issue was with New Forest District Council, not New Milton Town Council.

The force said the town council will make the decision as to whether or not the man will be penalised financially for the damage caused and this will then be passed to their legal representation to pursue.
