Hamworthy United Store & Secure new sponsor to fix financial situation

HAMWORTHY United have secured a new sponsor as the club continues to battle financial problems.

In October, the club withdrew from the Southern League due to an “untenable” financial situation.

It quickly appointed Andy James to head up a new commercial department focused on restoring the Hammers to their non-league status.

And the club has now secured a sponsorship deal with Store & Secure, based nearby.

The County Ground was previously “condemned” by football authorities, but with its re-laid 4G pitch is now deemed sufficient.

Meanwhile, the stand will be decorated in the bright branding of the company run by ‘storage sisters’ Lucy and Sophie Maidman.

Lucy said: “Our huge storage facility is just up the road from Hamworthy United and we wanted to support local charities and sports.

“The club wanted a sponsor for the stand behind the goal and we thought it was a perfect fit.

“I know the club is used every day of the week which means lots of people seeing our name.

“We were brought up close to the ground and the family has always been involved with the club.”

Bruce Scammell, president of Hamworthy United, added: “The stand was built about 20 years ago in memory of Irvin Brown, and we have added a plaque to note the fact.

“But we wanted a sponsor for it and Store & Secure were kind enough to offer.

“The income will help us achieve our aim of rising through the leagues now that we have added a brand new stand to ensure the ground satisfies the league requirements.”
