FIRE crews have been working to extinguish a fire at a Christchurch recycling centre for two days now.
The fire in a “large quantity of recycling” material was first reported at the Hurn tip on Chapel Lane at 11.26am yesterday (July 23).
Multiple crews attended the scene throughout the day, but complications arose due to where the fire started.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “The fire is very deep seated within the waste stack, so the stack needed to be broken down and removed from the building.
“A watching brief was maintained overnight, and we are again actively firefighting this morning, with three fire crews and a water carrier on scene.”

A telehandler from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service will be used to move the recycling.
Residents are being told to keep doors and windows shut due to smoke.
