FIREFIGHTERS battled to stop a heath fire spreading to homes.
Crews from Wimborne and Ringwood (Hants) were sent to the Holt Heath National Nature Reserve at around 1.27pm on Wednesday afternoon (February 15) to reports of a fire.
“On arrival, it was clear further resources were required to bring the fire under control, as it was spreading rapidly and there was the potential for domestic properties to be affected,” said a Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
“Further fire engines, off-road fire engines, Land Rovers, a Unimog and a water carrier attended and firefighters tackled the fire and prevented spread from strategic positions.”
The blaze was brought under control at just before 3.30pm, they said, with most appliances able to leave the site.
Three remained to ensure the area was fully damped down.
“An area just under 10 hectares was affected, but all properties were protected and no evacuation was required,” the spokesperson added.
