GRAB a book, a blanket, and enjoy a brilliant reading adventure in the garden of the Museum of East Dorset.
Wimborne Library and the Museum of East Dorset are teaming up to support the UK-wide Summer Reading Challenge, organised by the charity The Reading Agency.
This initiative encourages children to keep reading during the summer holidays, helping them stay confident and ready for the new school term in autumn.
Children set a reading goal and collect rewards for reading anything they enjoy.
Children can sign up at their local library or online, and it’s free to take part.
The theme of this year’s challenge is Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors and is designed to inspire children to tap into a world of imagination through reading, exploring the magical connection between storytelling and nature.

The Museum of East Dorset is opening its beautiful walled garden to young readers throughout the summer.
Museum director Francesca Hollow said: “We’re inviting children to bring their book, grab one of our picnic blankets, and experience the joy of reading in our stunning garden.
“It’s a peaceful, inspiring space right in the heart of Wimborne. Parents may also enjoy a browse in our second-hand bookshop and find a bargain book for their own summer reading.”
Wimborne Library will also host a series of summer activities in the garden, making it a hub for creativity and learning.
According to the Reading Agency, 1 in 4 children cannot read well by the age of 11, which can significantly limit their future opportunities.
The Summer Reading Challenge helps children stay engaged with reading during the holidays — a time when many lose momentum.
Entry to the Museum of East Dorset Garden and tearoom is free.
Museum entry is £5.50 for children aged five to 16 years, and this is valid for a year.
