A late goal from Connor Cocklin ensured Wimborne Town didn’t end the regular season with a defeat.
A bumper crowd of 1,044 saw the Magpies fall behind to an early goal when Charlie Madden found the net from a free kick. Despite chances from Bedford and Hanger, Wimborne went in at the break behind.
The Magpies came out for the second half with a similar momentum as they finished the first. Dennett saw his header go narrowly over from a Hanger cross. Eventually, the pressure paid off as Connor Cocklin found the net with 10 minutes left.
The visitors then pressed for a winner themselves, needing all three to avoid a relegation playoff, which saw Wimborne lose two men. Both Hanger and Tshaka received their marching orders for tackles that referee Jordan McRitchie deemed enough to produce red cards.
All eyes will now be on Wednesday when they make the trip east to Sholing who took the runners-up spot, 7 points behind champions AFC Totton.
