EXTINCTION Rebellion Wimborne will stage a protest against fossil fuels in the town this weekend.
On Saturday (September 16), the group will host an ‘upside down protest’ featuring pink rebels, processions, placards and more – all to the soundtrack of a range of fossil fuel-themed songs.
The message of the demonstration, which will work around the Inside Out Arts Festival, is ‘no new oil, no new gas, no new coal’.
“Our Government is failing us by letting new oil, gas, coal projects go ahead,” a spokesperson said.
“This is against our commitment to net zero.
“Our Government pays billions in fossil fuel subsidies, close to £80 billion since the Paris Agreement.
“Fossil fuels received £20bn more UK support than renewables since 2015.”
Anyone wishing to take part should meet at the King Street car park, in Minster End, at 10.30am.
After the protest ends, at 12.45pm, the group will head for lunch at No 9 on The Green.
