Malawi to be focus of fundraising

Bunting, banners and a singalong to one of the world’s highest grossing films – that’s how Wimborne will be marking Christian Aid Week this year.

Celebrations kick off with an ecumenical service at Wimborne Methodist Church on Sunday, May 14, beginning at 10.30am.

And the mystery cinematic experience – involving nuns, Nazis and mountains – will take place at St Michael and All Angels, Colehill, from 7pm on Tuesday, May 16.

During the week there will be some house-to-house collections and a street collection takes place on the Friday.

Malawi – still struggling to recover from devastating Cyclone Freddy – is the focus of this year’s fundraising.

The cyclone washed away crops, displaced half a million and killed several hundred people.

Christian Aid is there in such emergencies but stays on to help those affected get back on their feet. The development agency will supply superior seeds and ensure the farmers receive a fair price for their crops, thereby securing a better future for the next generation.
