Athletes break two more league records

Another hot day in Exeter saw Wimborne’s athletes break two records in the third South West League match at Exeter, writes Peter Impett.
Wimborne just failed to make it three match wins in a row, missing out by a narrow margin to Yeovil but remain in a strong position to take the league title as Taunton slipped to fourth on the day.
It was still a strong performance when many leading athletes were on holiday.
Will Langridge stepped up an age group to win the under 17 triple jump in a League and club record 12m92. Will is putting missing out on a third placed medal on countback at the English Schools championships behind him with some superb performances.
The other record breakers were Zachary Fricker, Harry Ryan, Elliott Trickey and Finlay Carvell in the under 13 relay in a time of 53.87 seconfds.
Harry Ryan won the hurdles in 12.29 and Zachary was second in the long jump with 4m45.
The girls won all three junior high jumps. Kayla Robbins won the under 13s with 1m30, Mia Hagan won the under 15s in a personal best 1m45 and Isla Dalton repeated that feat in the under 17s with 1m50. The girls pulled in many of the points with Esther Brooks winning the under 13 girls hurdles 12.76. Isabelle Roberts was second in a scorching hot 1500 metres in 5.53.40 followed closely in third by Emma Louise Foyle in 5.54.70. Lucy Lucas won the under 15s 100 metres in 13.12 and Isla O’Connor was second in the 1500 metres in 5.08.01.
Harry Bunting was second to Will Langridge in the under 17 triple jump with 11m39 having won the 100 metres in 11.79.
Dave Pearson won the senior men’s hammer with a modest 21.27.
