Rain doesn’t stop play on pancake day

For only the third time since it was revived in 1998 the Wimborne Minster Pancake Race had to take place inside the Minster on Shrove Tuesday due to the prevailing weather conditions.
Three local schools participated Wimborne First, Dumpton and Allenbourn Middle.
Five toddlers took part in the Toddlers Race, followed by four wheelchair entries from Streets Meadow who were pushed up and down the centre of the nave on a timed basis.
In the adult races10 runners were timed individually round the inside of the Minster. Winner was Scott
Taylor with a time of 12.50 seconds, Nick Rawling was second with Molly Doola coming in third.
Scott received the John Loader Memorial Cup and a serving jug.
Town Mayor Cllr Kelly Webb and the Town Crier Chris Brown started off all the races and Number 9 On the Green in Cook Row provided pancakes to be purchased both before and after the races and also assisted with the
sponsorship of the schools races.
A collection taken for Minster Funds raised £67.62.
Anthony Oliver, one of the organisers, said: “In spite of the weather we had an enjoyable morning and
there were a lot of smiling faces.
“Let’s hope for better weather next year
when Shrove Tuesday falls on February 21, 2023 so get into training in good
time.”
