FAMILIES are invited to step into a world of magic, imagination and adventure next month as Wimborne’s award‑winning Museum of East Dorset launches an enchanting new Wizard of Oz inspired family trail.
With excitement around the Wicked films reigniting global love for Oz and its unforgettable characters, the museum is encouraging families to reconnect with the story that started it all – the iconic classic The Wizard of Oz.
From ruby slippers to the Emerald City, this fun‑filled trail celebrates the timeless tale that continues to inspire generations.
Starting Monday (February 2) and throughout February half term school holidays, families can follow the Yellow Brick Trail through the museum, joining Dorothy and her chums on a journey packed with puzzles, creative challenges and hands‑on activities.
Along the way, just like the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion, visitors will be invited to test their courage, kindness and curiosity with each stop inspired by a different character from over the rainbow, encouraging playful learning, exploration and imagination.
Children are also encouraged to truly get into character at the museum’s ever‑popular dressing‑up area, with a fantastic selection of costumes, adding even more magic to the experience – perfect for budding lions, tin men, scarecrows and witches.

Follow the yellow brick trail and complete tasks along the way.
Adding to the half‑term highlights, the museum will host special story time sessions in partnership with Wimborne Library, taking place at 10am and 2.15pm on Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 in the museum’s entrance gallery.
These relaxed and engaging sessions offer an ideal opportunity for families to slow down, listen and enjoy the story together. These sessions are free with museum entry fee.
Museum of East Dorset’s event manager Amy Webster said: “With renewed interest in Oz thanks to the Wicked films, this felt like the perfect moment to celebrate the original story that captured hearts nearly a century ago.
“Our Yellow Brick Trail is all about fun, family time and imagination – and reminding everyone that, just like Dorothy discovered, there’s no place like home, especially when it’s your local museum!”
The Wizard of Oz trail is included with standard museum entry, and every ticket comes with the added magic of an annual pass valid for 12 months, allowing families to return repeatedly throughout the year.
So, pop on your ruby slippers, click your heels, and head to the Museum of East Dorset this half term for a spellbinding adventure that promises fun for all the family.
