Stolen campervan later used in burglary at Hamworthy shop, say police

A CAMPERVAN reported stolen from Hamworthy was later linked to a burglary at a commercial premises.

Police said the van, a white VW camper, was reported stolen at around 11.30pm on Friday, December 19.

It was later reported the same vehicle was believed to have been used to transport three men to the Tesco Express store, in Blandford Road, Hamworthy, at around 3.50am the following morning.

“The men forced entry to the premises and attempted to gain access to a till and cigarette stand but were unsuccessful and made off from the scene,” a Dorset Police spokesperson said.

“A report was received at 11.35am that same day that the vehicle had been located in Ashmore Avenue.”

PC Mark Matthews, of Poole police, added: “We are continuing to investigate these linked matters and I would urge anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Hamworthy area on the night of Friday 19 December into the early hours of Saturday, December 20, to please contact us.

“I am also keen to hear from any motorists who may have captured relevant dashcam footage, or residents with home CCTV or doorbell camera systems that may assist our enquiries.”
