THE Taddiford Gap car park near Downton was closed on Sunday (August 24) after an unexploded mortar was spotted by a member of the public.
The device was found on the beach nearby to the site.
New Forest Police sealed off the area from the public as they awaited their bomb disposal colleagues from the Royal Navy.

A controlled explosion of the mortar was then carried out, which required officers to attend Hurst Spit to clear a section of the beach area.
“Thankfully all went to plan and nobody was injured in the process,” a New Forest Police spokesperson said.
