VERWOOD could soon see up to 100 houses built on land to the south of the town.
A pre-application has been submitted to Dorset Council which would see the homes built on land to the west of Manor Road as an urban extension to Verwood.
The land is currently used by grazing horses.
While little detail has been included in the pre-application plan, the new development would be made up of two-bed, three-bed and four-bed homes, with some affordable housing.

Access to the site has been proposed from Manor Road, with pedestrian links to southern Verwood via St. Michael’s Road.
A Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANGS) has also been included in the plans that would sit to the south of the development.
The plans said the SANGS would be created to mitigate any potential adverse effects arising from the potential recreational use of nearby areas of heathland by future residents.

New housing would be welcome – but with it must come more GP resources, a secondary school, road improvements etc. The current trend of ‘just add more houses’ is completely unsustainable and serves the developers more than it does the community.
There are actually plans for over 1500 new homes in Verwood, and yet I’ve seen no talk of how they will accomodate 1500 extra cars on the single lane residential road that runs through the town, or the motorway junction that is already heaving at rush hour down by the Waldorf school.
All of these plans should be rejected until the facilities are updated to accomodate them.
Think they arevtrying to merge west moors, verwood and through to Alderholt. No secondary school, no extra doctors , dentist. 100 houses at least 200 cars. Verwood will be one long traffic jam. It is a small village/town which is neglected as a town, just build more houses. !!.
