Banksy-style artwork spotted in Poole – but is it the real thing?

A POPULAR beachfront venue in Sandbanks saw a stencil appear on its wall overnight – and it features all the characteristics of Banksy.

The stencil on the exterior wall of Rockwater Branksome, which depicts a girl handing a police officer ice creams, was first spotted by staff this morning (June 18).

The distinctive black stencil style and social commentary theme have sparked speculation that it could be the work of Banksy.

Coincidentally, Helm Gallery in Hove is featuring Banksy works in its ‘Disruption’ exhibition at the Rockwater venue tonight.

Founder and creator of the Helm Gallery, Eden Maseyk, said: “The piece has all the markings of a Banksy work, but we would need a little more time to verify its authenticity.”

Luke Davis of Rockwater said: “I was as surprised as anyone to discover this piece on our wall this morning.

“I’m a big fan of Banksy’s work, and if it is genuine, we are truly honoured.”

The artwork is expected to garner attention, but Rockwater has confirmed it will continue to operate as normal.
