Plan for new dog walking parks in woodland near Wimborne

PLANS for a dog walking park near Wimborne have been submitted.

The scheme, by CL Planning on behalf of Ms Lorna Trent, would see around two hectares of land at Shady Glades, Long Lane, Colehill, converted into two dog exercise areas.

It would see 50% of trees currently on the site removed, approved by the Forestry Commission, allowing grass to regrow and light to enter the site.

A parking area would also be created as part of the scheme, with a storage container installed.

“The dog park will be predominantly used by sensitive and reactive dogs who cannot exercise near other dogs,” the application said.

“There are currently no nearby dog parks for the residents of Colehill to use.”

Access would come from Long Lane, which would be widened and hedgerows trimmed to ensure visibility.

“The dog parks will be booked out for sessions of up to 60 minutes by an individual or small group for their personal use,” the plan went on.

“The dog parks must be pre-booked to ensure control and oversight of the exercise area to ensure safety for the dogs and owners hiring the parks.”

The plans outline proposals for 6ft-tall deer fencing to be erected around the exercise areas, which would enable dog owners to let their dogs run free “without the worry of running on to the road or surrounding land”.

It is proposed the site is only used in daylight hours, the plan added.
