AN event in Wimborne which saw people bid on various prizes – including holidays, jewellery and gardening support – raised nearly £2,000 for charity.
The lively auction, organised by Wimborne Town Council, took place at St Michael’s Middle School in Colehill on Wednesday (March 19).
It was opened by Wimborne AFC General Manager Jimmy Glass, with the auction led by John Billington, who kept the bidding moving at pace.
Town mayor, councillor Jeff Hart, praised the evening: “What a fantastic night!
“Not only did everyone have a great time, but we also managed to raise nearly £2,000 for two wonderful causes.

“We are incredibly grateful to Darren Ayling, headteacher of St Michael’s Middle School, for his support – and congratulations to him for winning some beer in the raffle!”
In addition to the auction, a raffle on the night contributed an extra £200 to the total funds raised.
The fundraising efforts continue with the next event – a Grand Quiz on April 30 at Wimborne Town Football Club.
