Residents at Kings Park care home in Ferndown thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon of brain power and when ‘Scrabble Man Steve’ brought along his giant Scrabble board they were keen to settle down to an intense game.
Playing in two teams, the game soon got serious and when one team played ‘cheque’ for 63 points, the pressure was on!
Steve is great at encouraging the residents to come forward with their ideas and a deep conversation about the meanings and origins of words often occurs, which is a further part of the enjoyment of the activity.
Although ‘cheque’ took one team to a substantial lead, the other team soon caught up and the game ended with just one point between them!
One resident, Pat, exclaimed how enjoyable the afternoon had been and said: “It is so interesting to look into the origin of words and phrases that we all use daily and Steve makes it such a fun afternoon!”
