THE A35 Christchurch bypass will see two phased closures over the next three weeks as BCP Council carries out essential maintenance works.
Work will take place to shore up one of the county’s most used roads to help protect it for years to come, with additional work including gully cleaning and safety improvement works also taking place.
Starting from 6pm yesterday (October 27), the eastbound side will remain closed until 6am on November 10.
This will be followed with the closure of the westbound side at 6pm on November 10 until 6am on November 17.
Dorset Council has reassured motorists that at no stage will both sides of the road be closed at the same time.
Councillor Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for highways maintenance at BCP Council, said the council fully understands the inconvenience road closures can cause.

“This work will improve the resilience of one of our most-used roads, protecting it for years to come against the stresses of frequent braking and acceleration,” he said.
“The closure is not two way, it’s eastbound for two weeks, then westbound for a week, including re-opening on Mondays for market day.
“We have worked hard to make maximum use of the time that it is closed; teams will be carrying out other work such as essential repairs, utility works, safety improvement works, gully cleaning and clearing vegetation to minimise further disruption later.
“Our teams will be working day and night to complete this essential maintenance – using specialised materials known for their longevity.
“This type of work cannot be carried out in the busy summer months and can’t usually be carried out in winter temperatures; so, the work could either be carried out now or closer to Easter.
“These improvements are vital to ensure the safety and condition of our road network, and we appreciate residents’ patience while we carry out this essential work.”
