Man left with broken jaw after Verwood Town FC car park assault

A MAN was left with a broken jaw after an altercation in the car park at Verwood Town Football Club.

The incident happened in the gravel parking area of the Potterne Way ground, near Verwood Day Nursery, at around 12.50pm on Saturday afternoon (July 27).

Police said the victim, a man in his 30s, had been involved in a verbal dispute with another man, who then proceeded to punch him in the face, causing two fractures to his jaw and damaging his glasses.

A man, also in his 30s and from West Parley, was later arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and criminal damage.

He has been released under investigation.

Sergeant Ben Turner, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“I would also like to appeal to any motorists with dashcam footage who were in the car park around the relevant time to please check their footage to see if they have captured anything to assist our enquiries.”
