WIMBORNE residents are being asked to help design a new-look, reusable Wimborne Cup that people can use throughout events in the town.
The popular Wimborne Minster Folk Festival will return to the town in June, and in an effort to reduce plastic waste, environmental community groups, Planet Wimborne and Wimborne War on Waste have teamed up with the Folk Festival organisers, the town council, Wimborne BID and the majority of pubs in the town to launch the reusable Wimborne Cup at this year’s festival.
The Wimborne Cup can then be used for any other event in the town.

Wimborne artist, Becky Dodd of Doddy Design, has been commissioned to produce the design for the cup, with the winner eventually chosen by residents.
The public has until January 31st to leave their ideas for the cup on Becky’s website, Doddy Design.
Becky said: “I’m so excited to be producing the artwork for the Wimborne Cup and really want to know what the public want to see on the cup.
“You just need to go to my Doddy Design website to leave your ideas by Friday, January 31.”
Sarah Wise from Wimborne War on Waste said: “We live in a beautiful town that is known for its environmental credentials including achieving ‘Plastic Free Community’ status in 2018.
“The introduction of the Wimborne Cup is a great way for the town to cut down plastic waste.”
Pubs will offer the reusable Wimborne Cup for a £1 at the Wimborne Minster Folk Festival.
The cup can then be used at all the other participating pubs and so cut down on plastic waste.
A Planet Wimborne spokesperson said people visiting the town will hopefully be encouraged to bring their own reusable festival cup and, providing it is marked for a pint measure, the pubs will be happy to use them.
This scheme is based on other successful UK street festivals.
Katherine Valenti, landlady of The Green Man and chair of Wimborne Pubwatch, a group of publicans who come together to share information, said: “We are 100% behind this scheme and see it as a great way for the pubs of Wimborne to help cut plastic waste.”
