A VILLAGE school near Wimborne has been rated as ‘good’ in all areas by Ofsted inspectors.
Hayeswood First School, in Colehill, was visited for the first time for inspection since becoming part of the Initio Learning Trust.
The school has nearly 150 pupils aged between four and nine, and was rated as ‘outstanding’ at the final inspection in 2010 – before joining Initio in 2015.
Reporting on their recent visit, inspectors said children learn to read as soon as they start, while teachers promote a “love of reading” and “story time is a treasured part of the day”.
The report detailed how children with special educational needs or disabilities are supported to “access the full curriculum”.
Haysewood was considered ‘good’ in each area judged: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision.
Executive headteacher, Sharon Staddon, said: “All the staff have worked incredibly hard to create the school we have now.

“The pupils themselves also work very hard and we’ve had great support from parents who understand what we are creating.
“In the report it explains how our mission statement ‘everyone matters, every day counts’, has led to good attendance, which is extremely important to us.
“Education at this age sets children up for their lives, so good attendance is crucial and it is something we place a great emphasis on.
“There are areas that we need to work on and those things are already being addressed.”
Liz West, chief executive officer of the trust, said: “The inspectors were certainly impressed with the school and that is reflected throughout their report.
“It states that “the school and trust have worked together to carefully sequence the core knowledge they want pupils to learn”, and that shows how being part of Initio really benefits Hayeswood, as it does all our other schools.
“It gives us great pride to receive Ofsted reports like this and I know Sharon and the staff will continue to drive the school forward.”
