Dorset firm reaches high standard to protect “safety and health” of staff

A DORSET recycling and renewables company has been recognised for taking steps ensure the “safety and health” of workers.

Parley-based Eco Sustainable Solutions has gained certification to ISO 45001 – the international standard for occupational health and safety – which is used and recognised around the world.

The standard provides a framework for identifying and assessing occupational health and safety risks, meaning organisations can enhance their safety performance and reduce the likelihood of accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses.

Jamie Williams, Eco’s HSQE (health, safety, quality, environment) manager, said: “This is the result of a lot of hard work. It’s really important to Eco as the safety and health of our team is our number one priority.

“A happy team with a positive safety culture is key to a successful business.”

Eco has also had its certifications to international standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 renewed.

ISO 9001 is a globally recognised standard for quality management systems (QMS), while ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems (EMS).

Founded in 1995, Eco has an annual turnover of £17 million and employs 49 people at sites in Parley, Piddlehinton and Weymouth.

From 1996 until 2023, Eco says its operations prevented 1.9 million tonnes of CO2 from being emitted to the atmosphere through the recycling of more than 1.2 million tonnes of green waste, 1.2 million tonnes of soil, 0.92 million tonnes of waste wood and 0.62 million tonnes of food waste.

The total tonnage of waste recycled since Eco opened its gates now stands at more than 4 million tonnes.
