A WISH came true for a care home resident in Bournemouth after they watched Bournemouth AFC win their final game of the season against Leicester.
Keen AFC Bournemouth fan Maurice, who lives at Talbot View care home on Ensbury Avenue, told the care home team about how he’d like to go to the stadium with his wife, Marian, to see his favourite team play.
In response, the Talbot View team took Maurice to feel part of the action and hear the roar of the crowd sitting next to his wife, Marian, at the Cherries’ last match of the season – where the Cherries won 2-0 thanks to a brace by Antoine Semenyo.
Talbot View care home runs a ‘Make a Wish’ initiative which encourages residents to share details of the interests and hobbies which they can no longer do without the care home team’s help and support. The team then tries to find a way to safely make it happen.
Maurice said that it was “really enjoyable and very good” to be at the match with Marian.
His wife, Marian, said: “It was lovely to see Maurice back at the Vitality Stadium and he saw lots of his friends there, who were pleased to see him.
“We were impressed that Maurice even remembered some of the songs. I am so grateful to the Talbot View team for arranging this and helping him on the day.”
This activity was organised in addition to the home’s varied activities programme which aims to bring residents together to socialise and build friendships.
The daily events calendar enables the residents to continue pursuing their hobbies and interests, as well as trying new things, with the team’s support.
Neil Dominy, home manager at Talbot View, said: “Seeing Maurice and Marian reunited in the stands at the Vitality Stadium was an incredibly special moment for all of us.
“It’s a real privilege for the team to support our residents to continue feeling part of their local community and enjoying the passions that bring them happiness.”
Talbot View, which is part of the Care South family of care homes, provides specialist residential, respite, and dementia care, with a choice of communal lounges overlooking a landscaped garden offering peace and tranquillity.
