Bake Off star Maggie’s in store for you

This month at Salamander Cookshop there are some great events including a chance to meet special guest, 2021 GBBO contestant Dorset’s Maggie Richardson who will demonstrate cake icing / decorating techniques in the Dacombes’ Demonstration Kitchen on Wednesday, May 25, (admission by advance ticket only).
Salamander also has two drop-in events in the shop. On Saturday, May 14, from 11am-2pm, Wusthof Knife expert Jake Cross is in store with advice on how best to sharpen and maintain knives. Jake will demonstrate how to use a steel with easy ways to ensure you get this right every time as well as whetstones and simple pull-through sharpeners.
And there is a chance to meet ceramics and textiles designer Emily Smith.
Emily is based in Devon and her innovative and creative designs not only caught our eye but have proved popular with customers. See her products and hear about her inspirations on Saturday, May 21, from 11am-2pm.
The Salamander Food Walk
Fifteen guests joined Salamander’s owner David Crossley on a tour of some of the artisan food shops and in Wimborne in April. All appreciated how lucky we are to live in a town with so much locally-sourced food available.
They began by visiting at Bell’s Fish where Mike let us taste the delicious salmon smoked on the premises, progressed to the Old Malthouse Bakehouse where they sampled a lovely flatbread and then to Farehouse Trading with a chance to buy local gin, tea, coffee and their famous chilly pastes.
Then across the bridge to Fluffets at Home where eggs take centre stage, and some delicious local cheese was tasted by all. Chococake satisfied those with a sweet tooth where different dark, plain and white chocolates were enjoyed, and we heard all about their speciality cakes for special occasions.
The tour ended at East Street Deli where we tasted three superb local cheeses and a visit to the kitchen garden at Dean’s Court where Chef James told us of their plans which include growing and selling vegetable boxes this summer. As one guest remarked: “I enjoyed your very well organised food tour so much that I’d like to book a place now to ensure that my wife can come along on your next one.”
Save the dates:
June events include a chance to learn about coffee roasting and using a range of coffee makers at the Wimborne Coffee Roasters on Saturday, June 11, and a demonstration of how to make the best use of iconic KitchenAid Mixer with their National Demonstrator at Dacombes on June 16.
