Arson investigation launched after fire at former golf club

AN ARSON investigation has been launched after a fire destroyed a building at a derelict former golf club.

Flames were spotted at the Dudsbury Golf Club in Christchurch Road near Ferndown just after 6pm on Friday (June 20).

Dorset Police believes the fire was started deliberately, and it has launched an investigation.

No arrests have been made.

40 firefighters battled the flames at the height of the blaze.

PC Emma Davey, of Ferndown Police, said: “We have liaised with colleagues from the fire service and the current assessment is that this fire was not started accidentally.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the relevant time to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to hear from nearby residents with doorbell or CCTV cameras, as well as motorists with dashcam who were driving in the area of Christchurch Road at the time of the incident, who may have captured relevant footage that might assist our investigation.”
