Appeal to realise late dog rescuer’s dream

Staffie and Stray Rescue (SSR) specialise in taking in more difficult dogs that are considered in the rescue world harder to rehome. Many of our dogs come from the pounds, they are dumped and unclaimed and therefore more often than not, we never really know any history on the dogs, where they have come from or what they have been through.

Sadly, we are heartbroken to announce that leader of the pack Calli Byrne died in July, aged 48, following a brief illness.
Calli started with a dream – to help rescue and rehome the often-misunderstood breed, the Staffordshire bull terrier.
Her incredible passion and dedication to the dogs has directly impacted the success of SSR today.
She will be sorely missed by her family, the rescue team, foster homes, adopters, supporters of the charity, users of the charity and many, many more.
Calli’s dream was to build a sanctuary of her own for the dogs and we will continue to push for Calli’s Kennels and make her dreams come true. It has always been a long-term dream and goal for the rescue to have a sanctuary to call our own.
A statement said: ‘We cannot thank you enough Calli for inspiring us and being such an important part in the rescue world, being someone that actively made a difference to animal welfare in the UK.’

She has helped to rescue and rehome nearly 700 dogs.
The team at SSR are asking for donations to be made to the charity in Calli’s memory, which will go towards her dream of opening her own kennels.
